Graduates are encouraged to wear a cap and gown for the commencement ceremony. Academic attire is available for purchase at the University of Minnesota Bookstores.
Graduate apparel consists of a gown, cap, tassel, and hood. The hood color is determined by the degree objective rather than by major, e.g. white for Master of Arts, gold for Master of Science, royal blue for Ph.D. View the Doctoral & Master's Regalia Video by the UMN Bookstore.
Graduates are responsible for their own regalia. Extra robes, caps and tassels will not be available at 3M Arena at Mariucci.
GradFest 2026
Academic attire is available at a discount during GradFest hosted at the Coffman Union Bookstore on March 25 & 26, 2026 in the University of Minnesota Bookstores in Coffman Memorial Union from 10:00am - 6:00pm each day. . GradFest is a "no hassle for a tassel" service with one-stop access to everything you need to prepare for graduation. GradFest is the best time for students to take care of their cap & gown needs, and is the only time caps & gowns are on sale.
